In the center is an unusual statue in polychrome marbles, sculpted by Pierre Le Gros (in 1703) showing the death of the Saint. The Saint's head, hands and feet, as well as the cushion beneath his head, have been carved in white Carrara marble. The Saint's vestments are of black granite, while the mattress on which he lays is yellow alabaster.
