He was born in Arezzo, with the title of Count of Montauto. He studied in Rome and was ordained a priest in 1827. Appointed secret waiter, by Leo XII in 1827, canon of St. Peter, by Gregory XVI, in 1831 and cupbearer in 1836. In 1856 he received the honorary position of Latin Patriarch of Antioch.
