There are five stairways leading up from the atrium. The center stairway is the Santa Scala or Holy Stairs. You are only permitted to ascend these stairs on your knees. On either side are two sets of stairs for those who want to walk up. In the atrium there are scupltures representing different scenes from the Passion. To the right of the Santa Scala is The Kiss of Judas by Ignazio Jacometti.
