The rebuilt apse has four registers of decoration before the conch, the topmost of which is part of the conch mosaic. The bottom register comprises white marble revetting with intricate Cosmatesque mosaic decoration, in panels around roundels in quincunxes. The plinth is in grey granite, with a dado in what looks like green basalt.
