The monument was a gift of the Hungarians, made by the Hungarian architect Gzila Nalder and sculpted by Josef Damko, in 1909 to commemorate the crown of Hungary sent by Sylvester II to the King Stephen I on the occasion of the coronation, which took place August 17, 1001 in Esztergom.
