Portico
The portico, which measures 10 by 50 meters, is also by Galilei. It is adorned with twenty four pilasters of white, on a basement of Phrygian marble, springing from walls incrusted with beautiful colored marbles. At the right extremity of the portico is an entrance to the adjoining Pontifical palace; and above it is a bas-relief by Pietro Bracci of St. John the Baptist reproaching Herod.
