The central crossing of the transept has an internal cupola, frescoed by Giovanni Guerra, 1590. It has a trompe-l'oeil effect, giving you the impression of looking into a colonnaded drum of a real dome with fantastically ornate columns. The pendentives are frescoed with the Evangelists by Paolo Guidotti.
