The chapel was built where the entrance to the ancient church had been and was given in 1615 in patronage to Caesar Melotto who wanted to dedicate it to the bishop of Milan, St. Charles Borromeo, then recently canonized. The statue of San Carlo in the narthex was originally in this chapel.
