Next are a double set of stairs. By the stairs is an apsed niche containing the restrained 15th century monument to Paolo Capranica, Archbishop of Benevento (died 1476), consisting of a large marble sarcophagus, on the lid of which is sculptured in relief the recumbent figure of the deceased.
