The chapel itself was built for the ambassador Nicolò Segredo based on a design by Pietro da Cortona in 1653. It has a plan based on a chamfered square, and is domed. The chamfered corners of the square are occupied by wide piers with slightly incurved faces, and from these spring four arches which outline the pediments.
