The layout of the chapel is on a Greek cross plan, with short wide arms and a central dome. The entrance arm is flanked by two little octagonal chapels. The left hand arm contains the shrine of Pope Paul V, and the right hand one the memorial of Pope Clement VIII. The marble reliefs are deeply carved, and the frescoes use dark tones and the gilded stucco work is lavish.
