The basilica's venerated icon of Our Lady was enshrined here in 1613. It is called Salus Populi Romani, "Well-being (or Salvation) of the Roman People" The icon itself is within an extremely elaborate frame made up of five bronze angels by Guillaume Berthelot, and with two little putti on top by Camillo Mariani.
