The monument has a reclining figure of the cardinal on a draped bier bearing five shields with his heraldry, with an angel at each end. Above is a mosaic sheltered by a Gothic canopy with fine Cosmatesque decoration including a sixth shield. The mosaic shows the Cardinal being presented to the Madonna and Child by SS Matthias and Jerome. The mosaic on the tomb is signed by Giovanni di Cosma, one of the family after which the Cosmatesque technique is named.
