The first chapel on the left is dedicated to the Annunciation of Our Lady, built in 1583. It is the Cappella Del Monte, and had a very interesting patron. Josef Zarfatì was a Sephardi Jewish rabbi from Fez in Morocco. He was one of the few Jewish converts in 16th century Rome, having been inspired by St Philip Neri. His patron was Pope Julius III, hence he took the pope's surname and became known as Andrea Del Monte after he was baptized in 1552. He died in 1587, and was buried in this chapel.
