The marble relief altarpiece features Simon Stock, whom the Carmelites venerate as a saint although the Roman martyrology lists him only as a beatus. He is shown Receiving the Brown Scapular from Our Lady , a mythical event created by a Carmelite forger of documents in the late Middle Ages. The sculpture is by Alfonso Balzico, 1860, and is possibly his best work.
