In the floor of the nave, in front of the altar, is the tomb of Cardinal Antonio Marcello Barberini, the founder of the church. The inscription on his simple marble tomb-slab translates as: "Here lies dust, ashes, and nothing". There is no name or date. This superb exercise in anti-fashion has earned the admiration of posterity.
