St. Lucy of Syracuse is one of the most famous of the Western virgin Martyrs and her name is in the Roman canon of the Mass. She was martyred at Syracuse, Sicily, in the reign of Diocletian but her shrine is at Venice. Her attribute is a pair of gouged-out eyes.
