The basilica is located between the Tiber and the Capitoline Hill, the Palatine Hill and the Aventine. This location is a very important area because it experienced the first settlements in the history of Rome. It was built into the remains of three Republican era temples, once tightly grouped together in the midst of the Forum Holitorium, the Vegetable Market of ancient Rome.
