The monument is by Andrea Bregno. The cardinal is portrayed lying on his bier, and over him are half-length relief sculptures of Sts Peter and Paul in separate arched niches. The pilasters on either side have little statues of St Praxedis on the left, holding her sponge and basin with which she mopped up the blood of martyrs, and St Pudentiana on the right holding the more generic symbols of book and palm branch.
