Instead of a painted altarpiece there is a small icon of Our Lady set in a marble bas-relief by the sculptor Luigi Acquisti, with rays of glory and supported by angels. Below this is depicted St Joseph Calasanz presenting a pair of schoolboys from the Pious School to her.
