The right hand transept end is the Cappella Colonna, and is richly decorated in polychrome marble with an impressive altar aedicule designed by Carlo Maderno. Before the 16th century rebuilding this chapel was under the patronage of the Colona family. The convent here was were Vittoria Colonna, great friend of Michelangelo, resided when she was in Rome.
