The façade is entirely in travertine, with one storey and three vertical zones. The center is dominated by an enormous propylaeum, behind which is the entrance bay of the church. A pair of gigantic attached Doric columns support an entablature and triangular pediment. This photograph was taken before the façade was cleaned, and still carries the coat-of-arms of Pope St. John Paul II.
