It is highly venerated, under the title of Our Lady of Intercession because she is not holding the Christ-Child but is in a position of supplication. The icon may have originally been on the right hand side of a Deesis once, a representation of Christ flanked by the Virgin and Saint John the Baptist with their hands raised in supplication.
