The ancient basilica is located on the west slope of the Celian Hill. Along the southern flank of the church the Clivus Scauri, one of the few streets in Rome which has kept both its ancient route and name. The mediaeval monastery survives as a terrace of three structurally distinct edifices attached to the right hand side of the church's portico.
