The vault is divided three parts by a frame of grotesque motifs. In every part are illustrated episodes from the history of the Franks: (from right to left) the Taking of Soissons, the Vase of Soissons and the Battle of Tolbiac. The vault frescoes are by Pellegrino Tibaldi.
