At the left end of the loggia is a mediaeval sarcophagus which bears a relief of the heraldic lion of the Papareschi family, to which Pope Innocent belonged. The plinth on which it sits bears an inscription commemorating mediaeval cardinals. The other sarcophagus fragment, to the left, is of the 4th century. The door leads to what once was the Benedictine monastery
