The sixth fresco. The saint has been immersed in a vat of boiling oil (A). In the background, Pope Cletus (Anacletus) is seen kneeling (C) and John being led away by a soldier (B). Above the fresco is written "Odor. ignis. non. erit. in te.", which may be a paraphrase of the text in Daniel Book 3,94.
