Just above the altar table is a Baroque shrine containing the relics. A pair of angels dressed in gold flank four fluted Corinthian columns in yellow marble with bronze capitals, supporting a bowed entablature and an incurved and five-pointed triangular pediment. This shrine encloses a bronze grille decorated with a gilded glory, in front of which is a large painting of the Mandylion.
